OPENING CEREMONY
The Thessaloniki Documentary Festival completes seven years of exploration this year, raising the curtain tomorrow, Friday, April 1st at 20:30, at the Olympion Theater. The ceremony will open with a speech by the Director of the Documentary Festival, Dimitris Eipides. Christos Zachopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture will then offer his welcome greetings. Haris Aidonopoulos, the Deputy Mayor of Thessaloniki in charge of culture, will also be there among others .
Following the speeches, there will be a screening of the multi-award winning German documentary Touch the sound. Τhomas Riedelsheimer, the director, will offer the audience a musical journey around the globe with Evelyn Glennie, a deaf musician who plays percussion, as a guide. Her unusual story, her relationship to sounds, with which she has no natural familiarity, her inspired contact with percussion, compose a film that elevates the uniqueness of the artist and testifies to the grandeur of her musical genius.
For the next 10 days, the pulse of the Festival will beat at the following four cinemas: OLYMPION, PAVLOS ZANAS, STAVROS TORNES, JOHN CASSAVETES. The ticket for each screening costs 4 euros, while cinekartaF, which allows the card holders entry to all the screenings, will cost 30 euros. Finally, entrance to the first two screenings daily is free for students.
