The Thessaloniki Documentary Festival- Images of the 21st Century zooms in on documentaries (No.2, January 2003) The "Doc Images Update" e-newsletter returns for the 6th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival: Images of the 21st Century. 1. Snapshot of a Growing Festival There is no film too shocking, no social problem too great for the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. For six years, Dimitris Eipides has brought the world to Thessaloniki, including Albert Maysles and a virtual Noam Chomsky.

2. Filming the gutter Swedish director Stefan Jarl ("We Are the Misfits", "Terrorists: The Kids They Sentenced") believes that documentary's place is in the gutter... and wherever else marginal people are found. The festival honors him, showing ten Jarl films.

3. The ABC's of Pitching Each year at the festival, the European Documentary Network trains Greek and regional filmmakers on how to refine and pitch projects.
