THE POSTER AND THE TRIBUTES OF THE 44th EDITION
Thessaloniki, November 21-30, 2003
The poster for an artistic event such as the annual Thessaloniki Film Festival, is an artistic event in itself that visually represents the events of each and every edition. This year, the Festival completes 44 years since its founding and will place between the 21st – 30th of November.
THE POSTER, THE ARTIST
The 44th Festival poster was crafted by Tasos Pavlopoulos. He was born in Athens in 1955. He studied painting and graphic arts (1978-83) at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in Poland. He studied under Henryk Tamoszewski, one of our century’s ground-breaking poster makers, and Teresa Pagowska. He has been honoured with the first prize in a Polish poster competition (1982) and has participated in the Warsaw Poster Biennale (1984, 1986) among others as well as the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition. (USA, 1987). In 1985 he designed one of the 12 sculptures constructed by Swatch for the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996.
THE TRIBUTES
As of the present time, the 44th Film Festival will pay tribute to the work of the noted Georgean filmmaker Otar Iosseliani, who works in France, by screening his work in its entirety. Wong Kar Wai, the innovative Chinese director will also be honoured, and on the Greek side, there will be a retrospective of the work of Nicos Panagiotopoulos. Of course, just like every year, New Horizons, the Balkan Survey Greek Films and many other parallel events will comprise the edition’s programme.
