World Music Day with Agia Fanfara

Wednesday June 21st, admission free

Three days earlier, on Wednesday June 21st, Evia Film Project will celebrate the World Music Day with an unforgettable screening and a music night featuring the top-notch percussion and brass band Agia Fanfara, which earned everyone’s praise recently, within the framework of the “2023 Elefsis European Capital of Culture” events.

The film Landfill Harmonic - A Symphony of the Human Spirit, directed by Brad Allgood and Graham Townsley, will be screened at ciné Elymnion, in Limni. The film brings forth the incredible story of a group of young musicians from Paraguay, who make music instruments out of garbage, paving the way for the coexistence of ecology and music.

After the end of the screening, Agia Fanfara will offer a music accompaniment to the spectators of the film as they exit from Elymnion and walk towards the dock of Limni. The band will perform popular traditional and contemporary melodies from Greece, the Balkans and the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Evia Film Project is the Festival’s third pillar of activities, adding its name to Thessaloniki International Film Festival, held in November, and Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, held in March. Its goal is to consolidate Northern Evia, a region severely hit by the 2021 calamitous wildfires, as an international hub of green cinema.

Evia Film Project is carried out thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and in collaboration with the Region of Central Greece, the Greek Film Centre, the Municipality of Istiea-Edipsos and the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna. Thessaloniki Film Festival is teaming up with all institutions and bodies seated in Evia and the Digital Arts and Cinema Department of the National and Kapodistrian University, based in Psachna.
