THE KUKUM

Immediately after the signing of the military agreement between NATO and Serbian Forces, which brought an end to the war in Kosovo, the uniformed Serb guards of a local mental institution abandon it and flee, followed by all of the staff.The patients are left alone without any supervision whatsoever.Although retarded, they observe their own philosophy of life, and have both wishes and dreams.Their sudden freedom is seen a chance for those dreams to come true.The film follows three of the inmates –Kukumi, Mara and Hasanas they make their way in the outside world among ‘normal’ people, who, of course, have no fewer problems than the inmates themselves.Their journey to freedom is a journey through post-war Kosovo, through which the reality of present-day Kosovo is also portrayed.
