Film description
The 2010 Oscar-winning feature documentary by Greek-American photographer and filmmaker Louie Psihoyos has enjoyed worldwide success. The movie is a call to action to halt mass dolphin kills in Japan, specifically in the cove near Taiji. A desperate warning addressed to the human race as to realize that destroying the planet’s animal and plant life equals self-destruction.
The Thessaloniki Documentary Festival awards the official The Thessaloniki Documentary Festival awards the official guest of this year’s edition, with the Golden Alexander. Louis Psychoyos has selected ten influential ecological documentaries for a carte blanche program. In the contextof the ceremony, there will be a screening of The Cove, the first feature documentary of Louie Psihoyos, which received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2009. The Greek-American filmmaker and photographer will attend the first screenings of the Carte Blanche program, to present the films and discuss with the audience of Thessaloniki in the respective Q&A sessions.
