WELCOME TO EUROPE

Greece 2011 10 Digibeta Color-B&W
Film description
Α refugee camp across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border made of carton boxes and filled with stories of people tortured by the police. A prison in Jordan with cells designed for five people but in which more than a hundred people reside, reaching for fresh air through the prison bars. A makeshift camp in a forest in Kenya, the only refuge of people who have nowhere else to go. A mass grave in Bosnia and Herzegovina and an imam praying for their souls. There is only one problem: these pictures, as we will find out towards the end of the film, are not telling us the truth. All these stories do not come from a place far away, across the borders. They come from Greece, from detention facilities and slums in a country that cannot cope with the thousands of immigrants entering through its borders, while the rest of Europe looks away. As for the imam, he is praying on top of a real mass grave: that of immigrants who died trying to cross the Evros River, in an effort to enter Greece from Turkey...
