Film description
Filmed against the backdrop of the decaying vestiges of Havana's once-impressive architecture, this daring satire tells the story of two young lovers who defy all odds –spatial, parental, political and existential– to be together. Ernesto is a nurse at a psychiatric hospital, but likes to pretend he is a psychiatrist when young women are admitted to the ward. Estela is an architecture student who is disillusioned by the decaying buildings and concerned about the safety of the people living inside them. The rejection by the authorities of a program she has designed, makes her even more depressed, and she decides to commit suicide. She is taken to the hospital, where she meets and falls in love with Ernesto. Vertical Love is an irreverent look at life in modern-day Cuba, but also a tender and passionate love story.
