Film description
Warmth, sweetness, nostalgia, melancholy, dynamic characters, family relationships, universal concerns – this is the cinema of Catalan filmmaker Carla Simón and Golden Bear-winner at Berlinale, an intoxicating -for the audience- way to exorcise her experiences. This time, premiering at Cannes, she makes a pilgrimage to the far from holy places of her homeland. The 18-year-old orphan Marina embarks on a journey to Galicia in 2004 in search of her father’s family and her identity, drawing on haunted recollections of her enamored, impassioned, scarred parents. Through the handheld camera with which Marina captures everything and Hélène Louvart’s masterful lighting, a two-fold summer memory emerges, harsh on the soul, yet delicate in appearance.
