The Muslim population is growing in Europe. In Naples, Muslims are not just immigrants: Neapolitans themselves, raised into the San Gennaro cult, convert to Islam. Dino Muhammad, a hairdresser in the suburbs, dreams of a caliphate of Naples, where there will be no taxes and the gambling racket of the local “Camorra” will be banned. Teresa fights with her husband in order to remove the icon of the Virgin Mary from the wall. After a life spent as a Catholic, Giovanni Yunis, a retired railway worker, has started to pray five times a day, to the great annoyance of his wife. Napolislam is a journey in which Naples appears as a chaotic harbor, shaped by the constant tension between new global phenomena and ancient local roots.
