Film description
An entertaining music series, consisting of six hour-long episodes, which focuses on 20th century Greek songs related to the life and struggles of the working class. The series presents original recordings through previously unreleased or rare archival material, as well as through contemporary versions of the songs, which have remained faithful to the original sound, by specially formed music groups featuring well-known singers and virtuoso musicians. The Festival will be screening two episodes: number one, entitled «One Hundred Drachmas an Hour» (Occupations), and number three, entitled «Damned Poverty» (Living conditions and social injustice). The series develops around the following story-line: A collector of historical musical and visual material attempts to record songs and dances associated with labor. He follows a music group which sings these songs in related locations (factories, shipyards, tavernas, etc.), in order to observe the audience’s reaction to this genre of song. x
