FIFTEEN (WORKING TITLE)

Greece 45
Film description
Every year in August, pilgrims gather at the Monastery of the Assumption of Mary in the island of Thirassia and lodge in the cells for 15 days. Fifteen documents the female-led micro-society as a cluster of representations: the female identity through the prism of faith, ritual as a time genre, and religious practices as a power system. Confronted by the lens of a critic, a charmer or a judge, the women confess the struggles of the “Greek dream”: the transition from rural poverty into the concrete-reinforced wealth bequeathed to their children. Their bodies look after the architectural body of the Virgin, preparing it for the feast of the Assumption, amidst the desolate landscape of Thirassia and against Santorini’s thriving tourism industry.
