In 1977 Rome, a couple (Stavros Tornes and Charlotte van Gelder) set out on a journey through history and the present-day world they live in (both literally and figuratively). Despite his being a Greek and her being Dutch, Stavros and Charlotte are united, first of all, by the Mediterranean, a cradle of civilizations and a place of cultural enjoyment. Trastevere, the bohemian neighborhood where they live, swarms with leftist intellectuals, artists and journalists. Stavros and Charlotte travel through the country on a little borrowed money, searching for some sort of truth.
