An allied fleet of French, English, Italian and Russian warships arrives in the port of Chania, and along with it Rosa Bonaparte, accompanied by twelve girls and all the equipment of a Marseilles brothel. They install themselves in a wing of the enormous half-ruined former Town Hall, where the officers of the Allied fleet fraternise and entertain themselves in the evenings, surrounded by secret and not so secret agents, army contractors, profiteers and camp followers
